SPUP JOURNEYS TOGETHER TO SPCEM EDUCATORS’ CONGRESS 2024

Paulinians from all over the Philippines gathered for the 35th SPC National Educators’ Congress held at St. Paul College Pasig (SPCP) and the 120th SPC Foundation Anniversary of SPC Philippine Province dubbed as “Paulinian Education: Witness to God’s Kingdom through Synodality” on July 4 – 6, 2024. International participants were also present hailing from Japan, Korea, Timor Leste, Thailand, and Indonesia.
The SPCEM Educators’ Congress aimed to foster a fuller experience of synodality within the Paulinian community, build a culture of collaboration, complementation, and resource sharing among Paulinian schools, and empower Paulinian schools to become effective witnesses to God’s kingdom.
Highlights include Liturgy, Keynote Address, Talks, Concurrent Sessions, Synodal Process of Sharing and Listening and Talk Show on Paulinian Gleaners.
The Opening Ceremonies begun with the entrance of colors bannering the flags of the different participating schools both in local and internation. The Welcome Address was delivered by Sister Felicitas Bernardo, SPC, Director of SPC Pasig extending a warm welcome to each and every Paulinian to SPC Pasig as their “home”, followed by the Perspective Setting by Sister Ma. Nilda Masirag, SPC, Assistant Provincial for Education Ministry. Sister Nilda, SPC, emphasized “ we will identify practical applications of synodality within our schools, recognizing its transformative power in shaping our educational landscape through our revised Vision, Mission, and Key Result Areas. The process we embark on is synodal; we will pray, discern, and decide together.”
Former Provincial Administrators were honored and acknowledged especially Sister Lilia Therese Tolentino, SPC who served and led the Congregation for the past ten years followed by the presentation of the new members of the Provincial Administration led by Sister Emily Louise del Castillo, SPC the Provincial Superior.
In her Keynote speech, Sr. Emily Louise del Castillo, SPC, Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province, beautifully depicted St Paul the Apostle in a painting as the weaver parallel to synodality and reminded that our life is likened unto him who weaves the life of others unto Christ. She emphasized that “synodality challenges us to walk alongside each other in mutual respect, hospitality, and active listening.” Further, “our educational mission is not confined within the walls of our schools; it extends to the wider world, where we and our graduates become agents of transformation, bearers of hope, and witnesses of the Kingdom”, she added.
Another significant highlight of this day is the Launching of the CLVE /GMRC textbook series authored by the SPC Sisters ready for the Matatag curriculum.
Among other inputs were that of Sr. Marie Rosanne Mallillin, SPC, Chancellor of St. Paul University System, who presented the New SPCEM Vision and Mission. Deepened by the conversations on the Vision-Mission by groups facilitated by Sr. Aileen Bonifacio, SPC in a synodal process of sharing and listening.
Dr. Trung Nguyen presented Optimized Use AI in Education. He accentuated the importance of using the right tools to enhance students’ collaborative, interactive, and immersive learning experiences. Also, Bro. Edmundo Fernandez, FSC, shared his expertise on building a culture system of collaboration, complementation and resource sharing among schools.
Concurrent Sessions highlighted teaching demonstrations on the use of AI in various subjects were attended by faculty members. Among others are on Finance for Finance Officers, and the School heads, Foreign Delegates, QA, VP Admin, CES, CDC, SS, HR on Legal Updates for School Administrators and Technologies in Laudato Si.
The last day highlighted a sharing on the living out of the Paulinian Gleaners’ Prayer through a talk show moderated by Ms. Marisa Verona. Sharers were Ms. Mariz Umali on Prayerful, Ms. Joanne Valdez for self-effacing, Ms. Ma. Lielani Cristales for Tranquil Daring, Atty, Pilar Nenuca Almira for All to All.
In conclusion, Sr. Helen Malubay, SPC, presented the synthesis of the congress. Followed by the results of the Congress Evaluation, and the Closing Remarks of Sister Nilda Masirag, SPC.
The congress concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with of Rite of Mission Sending by Msgr. Gerardo Santos.
